Pteroclidae

(沙鸡科 Shā-jī kē サケイ科 Sa-kei ka)

(Note: Some CJV Family and subfamily names under Monroe and Sibley are only tentative at this stage)

1. General names

Chinese: The Pteroclidae (or Pteroclididae) are known as 沙鸡 shā-jī ('sand fowl') in Chinese.

Japanese: The Japanese name for the sand grouse is サケイ sa-kei, written 沙鶏 or 砂鶏, ('sand fowl'). Etymologically, this is directly related to the Chinese term. Only Syrrhaptes paradoxus is found in Japan, and then only as a vagrant.

Vietnamese: The sand grouse are not found in Vietnam.
