Chinese: The Chinese name for the trogons is 咬鹃 yǎo-juān, literally 'biting cuckoo'. The Red-headed trogon is found across southern China; the others occur only in the far corner of Yunnan. |
Japanese: The trogons are known as キヌバネドリ kinu-bane-dori in Japanese, meaning 'silk-winged bird' and written 絹羽鳥. They are not found in Japan. |
Vietnamese: In Vietnamese, the trogons are known as Nuốc. However, this name does not occur in ordinary dictionaries. |
